About the Rockville Correctional Facility:
The Rockville Correctional Facility is a medium-security adult female facility located on approximately 52 acres, one mile northwest of Rockville, Indiana.
The Department of Correction developed the prior Air Force base into a juvenile male facility In 1970. In 1992, after moving through stages from young juveniles to older juveniles, co-ed with adolescent inmates and adult female offenders on the same grounds, and adult females alone, the facility became the largest female facility in the Department of Correction.
About the Job:
In this role as a Stores Clerk, you will be responsible for duties contributing to the efficient operation of the warehouse/commissary of the Rockville Correctional Facility. The work involves receiving, stocking, disbursing, and controlling goods and supplies. You will also organize and assign work of lower-level store clerks assigned to the warehouse/commissary. You will maintain security in the supervision of inmates assigned to the warehouse/commissary during working hours. You will report directly to the warehouse foreman and perform your duties with moderate supervision.

A Day in the Life:
- Verify the accuracy of all orders received in the warehouse and process all the goods received.
- Contact vendors regarding partial shipments and/or miss-orders.
- Maintain detailed inventory records and records of items ordered.
- Evaluate and reorganize record-keeping or storage procedures as necessary.
- Ensure proper storage procedures and rotation of stock for perishable items.
- Make recommendations on the purchase of new equipment for the warehouse and the maintenance required in the building.
- Direct/perform all work of offenders or regular staff assigned to the warehouse as needed.
- Train and direct all activities of offenders and lower-level staff.
- Ensure the security of offender workers assigned to the warehouse.
- Ensure that all items received are checked against shipping lists and stamps dated as received.
- Ability to utilize software applications for spreadsheets and databases, and the ability to operate all other types of office equipment.
- Assist in maintaining Asset and Inventory management Systems.
- Make recommendations on the purchase of new supplies or equipment for the warehouse.
- Ensure all safety standards and procedures are complied with.
- Assist with the sanitation of buildings and grounds.
- Intervene as per policy and procedure in critical incidents preventing injury, escape, and/or property damage.
- Maintain a positive image to the public in all related responsibilities.
- Maintain confidentiality.
What You'll Need for Success:
- Ability to distribute work and assign tasks to warehouse staff.
- Ability to train staff in the proper operation of all equipment and proper methods of storage.
- Ability to operate the forklift, hand truck, and other mechanical equipment in the warehouse.
- Ability to direct the work of offender workers assigned to the warehouse/commissary and to provide the appropriate security measures.
- Ability to maintain detailed, accurate inventory records and purchasing records.
- Ability to work under emergency conditions.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively in a teamwork environment, and in many instances, assume a leadership role.
- Working knowledge of basic street slang and security threat groups.
- Working knowledge of and the ability to perform approved self-defense techniques.
- Possess positive role model traits.
- Ability to accept supervision and constructive feedback.
- Ability to abide by the Department’s Standard of Conduct and all behavior expectations.
